Update [Jan. 7th, 2006|10:54 pm]
[Current Mood | awake]

I suppose I should show anyone who is keeping up with me on LJ the new radio show and podcast we're putting out, Point of Inquiry. I'm really gratified with the response we have been getting on iTunes and elsewhere.

Rove -- Bush's Goebbels? Not a referendum. An evangelical mandate. [Nov. 3rd, 2004|09:52 am]
[Current Mood |disheartened]

I think it is important that we give credit where it is due. We shouldnt blame Kerry and the Democrats -- it is not that Kerry and the Democrats did poorly, or had any major missteps, nor is it that Kerry was not a great candidate (he won all three debates, afterall) or that "he just didnt connect with the voters." Instead, we should credit Karl Rove. It is that Karl Rove's well-reported strategy of mobilizing evangelical Christians around culture-war issues more effectively than ever before actually worked. 11 states voted to ban gay marriage yesterday, for instance. And evangelical Christians were the deciding factor for Bush in Ohio and Florida.

What are the "culture-war issues"? The proper role of religion in government, gay marriage, evolution versus creationism, euthanasia, stem-cell research, abortion, etc., etc., -- all issues where there is a scientific, secular point of view as opposed to an Evangelical Christian point of view.

In any case, I see the election as being less that Kerry lost and more that Rove and evangelical Christians won. Because of evangelical Christians, more Americans voted for Bush than any president in US history.

Does this mean that the United States now finally, and actually, has become an evangelical Christian nation?

Its been months since I last blogged. And since the end of March, I have traveled to Europe three times and lots in the States besides, but that was mostly for work. I have spent the entire weekend doing nothing but reading, chatting online, relaxing and relaxing.

I'll post some pics of some of my trips soon. I wanna get back into this community, so if you get a chance, be sure to say hi.

I have been writing some recently on LJ, but have made many of the posts available only to close friends, since I know "work friends" are interested in different things than my friends outside of work.. If you are a friend of mine but don't see a whole lot of my posts of a personal nature, let me know and I will change that. In the meantime I will post some of my juvenalia and then some poetry that I wrote nearly 10 years ago in college, since I haven't let much of it out before.Read more... )

Well, I started LJ last Sunday because Evan showed me how fab it is. I have no friends on LJ so far but him but that's okay. I'm sure I'll bump into other like-minded folks on here. I love these self-selecting online communities. And I have begun meeting some interesting people on LJ, so yay.

I have a ton of interests, and being newly single, I am interested in meeting others with shared interests. We'll see how it goes.
